TOGO: DAMAGED ROADS

Motorists in Togo are on the road to ruin. Poor maintenance of the country’s network is a common cause of accidents and damage to cars.
MALI: AGRICULTURAL STIMULUS

Our second report takes us west of Bamako in Mali to Kita. The drought-hit area - once the country’s groundnut capital – now has a new start thanks to a programme to boost agricultural production.
MOROCCO: ARGAN ALERT

Reports of the week

BEER: South Africa
The Anglo-South African brewery, S.A.B Miller, specialised in beers, has put in an $11.5 million takeover bid for Foster’s, the Australian brewer.

COPPER: Africa
Forecasts are down for the Canadian Quantum group on the continent. In 2011 copper production will be just 140,000 tonnes. That’s 18% less than expected.

ECONOMY: Mali
In Mali it is estimated that the losses resulting from the threat posed by the Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb over the past two years could be as high as $107 million. The worst hit sector is tourism.

TEXTILE: Morocco
Moroccan textile exports totalled $1.4 billion from January to the end of May 2011 – 13.4% up from 2010. These figures may in part be due to the crisis in Tunisia.
